Got out this week and started clearing some trails and shooting lanes for deer hunting. Replenished some salt blocks and setup some trail cams, prepping for fall!

Visit the GobbleStalker site at www.gobblestalkercalls.com Spent a beautiful spring day on the Nipigon this week, water was cold and the fishing was slow, but ended up with a nice chinook and a laker.
Fished with a mixture of spoons, Pautzke brined smelts, and mmjj jig flies. Spent a day this week on Lake Superior, explored some new country by boat, fished a few rivermouths, and ended up catching a few gorgeous steelies!
A couple bags of recently caught smelts soaking in Pautzke's Fire Brine. Bait for spring lakers and brook trout! Can't wait to get out!
Got out for a midnight smelt fishing expedition; despite the raging rivers from all the rain, and the torrential downpour fillig my waders, we did quite well, nearly filling a pail in under 20 minutes, giving us more than enough smelt for a few feeds and plenty of bait.
Tom is now a member of the Pautzke Bait Co Pro Staff Team. Visit the Pautzke Site for more information on their great line of products for anglers. www.pautzke.com Today I was reminded how lucky we are here in thunder Bay. Today, during a morning of running errands I took a bit of a break between Home Depot and the grocery store and headed to the One if our steelhead rivers right in town for a couple hours.
Being a holiday weekend some stretches were quite busy, but I fished a few pools along one stretch of river for a little over an hour and ended up landing one bright chrome 22" hen, and lost a couple more fish, before gettin out of my waders and finishing my errands. Pretty darn lucky to have this five minutes from my doorstep! Spent the day with a couple friends down the North shore of Superior. Beginning of May and the steelhead run is yet to get going, very bizarre year. With many lakes still covered in ice and all sorts of snow in the bush things are far behind usual conditions this time of year.
Fished a number of different rivers, found some to be super high and muddy, and there appeared fishable, but water was cold and appeared to be devoid of fish life! ( or that's the excuse for all 3 o us not getting a hit!) Going to be an interesting spring, with warming temps this week there will be a lot of snow melt and runoff. It was a beautiful day, and great to spend a day on the rivers |
