We got out for a couple day trips, and then spent the better part of a week out at camp trying to fill out tag.
We saw some decent activity, and one day during our week out, we ended up getting some responses to calls, and found a few moose calling in a lowland off an old cut. I did some calling, and had a bull responding, calling steadily as he came in. He closed the distance to about a hundred yards, but held there, and wouldnt come any closer.
We hunted hard til near the end of the season with no success.
I then went out for a day to a friends property where he had seen a small yearling bull on the property. We setup a ground blind the night before, and sat in it at first light. We hung out some synthetic cow estrous, and within an hour hear cracking behind us. It was then followed by about ten grunts, sounding like he was grunting with each step, until he came in and stopped at about 6 yards! He froze up there for what seemed like an eternity, and then started walking away, giving me a brief opportunity to take a shot between some poplars as he walked away at about ten yards. He ran off, and piled up less than 40 yards away!
I had had some issues with my compound bow during the hunt the week prior that hadnt been resolved yet, so I took the crossbow out, and the tenpoint did an amazing job!
