Corine and I headed out to a local walleye lake to spend the night in an ice hut on the lake. Weather was cold and windy, and the fishing was slow, but we had lots of fun, and got a few fish, including one beauty walleye in the middle of the night.
We were fishing solely with big live Pautzke Fire Dyed Suckers, seriously cool looking bait, especially in murky water, and overnight! Ventured down to Pennsylvania and met up with Chris Shaffer of Pautzke Bait for a fishing/sports weekend. Caught some football and hockey games and did some trout and steelhead fishing.
Fished stocked trout in central PA and steelhead on Lk Erie's south shore. fishing with fire brined roe and Pautzke single eggs. Was spoiled on both trips, and was looked after by Isaac Zettle of Zettle Outdoors and Joey Usher of SWPA Fishing. Brought my dad out for a deer hunt and he got this beauty bucK with his Tenpoint Crossbow (in gun season).. This deer has been hanging around a few weeks and has made a few daytime appearances this month. Came in to check out a doe can call.

Had a great evening in the blind with Corine tonight, she hasn't had much time to hunt this fall but we managed to sneak out one evening. After hanging up synthetic does estrous and doing a series of doe bleats, she harvested this great whitetail, with the crossbow (in our regular gun season). Had a few trailcam pics of this deer and a few other bucks working a scrape in front of this spot. Made a great shot, he didnt make it 40 yards. Very proud of her! Got out for the first day of the calf moose season. With a two week calf season, after the adult opener, it's a bit of a different year here in Ontario. It's also the first year ever we haven't drawn an adult tag, so a bit of a change for our family hunting group!
Had an incredible morning, cool and calm, and met by a beautiful sunrise, followed by an encounter with a young cow. Walked to about 60 yards from her, and watched her for quite awhile, always a cool experience! spent a morning in farm country this morning hunting waterfowl with a friend. Had a great morning, shooting a pile of geese and a few bonus mallards.
Spent what would normally be opening morning of moose hunting out in the cuts, looking for moose, with my camera!
A friend and I went out to do some moose calling, and had an incredible morning, seeing a number of moose. We saw a bull and a cow together, and a group of four bulls with one cow. (one bull may have been the same from the first pair.) Did some calling, and had some fun with them; I walked across a wide open cut with a scapula over my head, to within a hundred yards of two young bulls. Took some mediocre video that I'll post sometime, and got a few flicks. What a morning! harvested a beautiful whitetail with my Athens Recluse this September. Definitely my personal biggest buck, and pretty excited to harvest it with my bow!
captured some great photos of him earlier in the week on my UWay cams (now Ridgetec cams), and had his patterns nailed down! |
